Harpur's of Melbourne is situated in the centre of Melbourne, a beautiful Georgian market town, right on the corner of Derby Rd and Potter Street. It is a focal point of the town and has been part of the heritage of Melbourne, as the Melbourne Hotel, for around 150 years.
Our recent refurbishment, the introduction of exciting new menus, a new executive Chef and great friendly staff have transformed Harpur's into a stylish Bar and Restaurant with Boutique accommodation which not only attracts locals but also lots of visitors to South Derbyshire. Our rooms are stylish and very comfortable and, as well as serving a mean breakfast, we have a range of menus to suit every taste and occassion. From our Early Bird, Harpur 7 menu (7 exciting dishes, served before 7pm for just £7), through to our mouth watering evening menu and our Wedding Parties for up to 200 guests.
Melbourne is steeped in history and is a perfect base for sightseeing. Harpur's offers you the comfort and style to ensure your trip is memorable.
In 1837, a tiny settlement in Austraila was named after the 2nd Viscount Melbourne and is now the second most populated Town in Australia.
The town contains many Georgian buildings and in the 19th Century was a centre for knitting;and footwear manufacture, e.g. Fairystep Shoes. Market gardens have always been a major part of the economy, though now only a handful remain. East Midlands Airport, five miles to the east of the town, was opened in the 1960s and has now become a significant regional transport hub.
